AMOLED
AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays are a type of OLED display that uses an active matrix to control the energy of the pixels. The active matrix is a network of transistors and capacitors that control the power applied to each pixel, allowing for higher precision and better performance compared to PMOLED displays.
They work by applying electrical current to organic materials on the panel, which emit light to form an image. As a result, AMOLED displays offer fast response time, a wide color gamut, high contrast ratio, and excellent visibility from different angles.
The main advantages of AMOLED displays include fast response time, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio. However, one of the main drawbacks is that they have a shorter lifespan than other display technologies, and can also suffer from uneven wear and premature aging from organic materials on the panel.
AMOLED screens are used in a wide variety of electronic products, including mobile phones, televisions, and smartwatches.
Did you know it?
The first mobile phone to use an AMOLED screen was the Nokia N85 in 2008! However, the technology was not yet mature, and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that Samsung and Apple extended its use.
